INTRAPRENEURING

I've written several times in InnovaScapes Institute (ISI) posts about Intrapreneuring.  We're (Ray Price and me) preparing an ISI website, and our first thoughts, naturally, are to make sure that our Intrapreneuring expertise and enthusiasm is featured.  To that end, the blog at intrapreneuringinnovation.blogspot.com carries posts occasionally, and in particular, this morning I posted both our Mission statement, beliefs, and approach in this regard.

It mentions, of course, our HP book, but doesn't mention Ray's Serial Innovators (Stanford, 2012) which includes deep analysis of individuals at a variety of companies, notably including Proctor and Gamble, nor does it cover our work at Motorola , Boeing, Agilent or Apple, to name a few others.  And it doesn't reference my "Permission Denied" which is one of very few 'first-person accounts' by an entrepreneur.

The question for our website developer has been, "Is this Intrapreneuring topic all that InnovaScapes Institute is about?"      The answer is NO, but in some respects, to list other arenas is to defocus the message.  As a consequence, he is a bit mystified, and I find myself having to explain my eclectic approach to life all over again.  Those of you who know me won't find this surprising -- it must go back to that Caltech 'training' -- tackle the interesting questions, never mind the silos and the walled-in feeling

So, yes, INTRAPRENEURING is a passion, and a big one at that.  But it properly can be thought of as a "division', not the company.  HP did voltmeters and logic analyzers, and in a curious way, the voltmeters gave rise to the world's largest computer company.  The tremendously successful InkJet printers owe their existence to the Gallium Arsenide microwave transistors built for 1GHz satellite communications.  In the same vein, we believe that Intrapreneuring topics can reside comfortably alongside issues of Privacy and Networked Systems, or even COPD causal agents that are discovered and traced via Computer Graphical 'big data' plots.
